Analgosedation Kraków

Analgosedacja

What is analgosedation? Analgosedation is a method of mild anesthesia used to ensure patient comfort during short, minimally invasive procedures and examinations. By combining pain-relieving and sedative medications, medical procedures can be performed painlessly and with less stress—without the need for full general anesthesia. This type of sedation is used, for example, during liposuction, blepharoplasty, or otoplasty.

How does the procedure work? The anesthesia is usually administered intravenously. The patient feels relaxed and often falls into a light sleep, but does not lose full consciousness. Depending on the depth of sedation, it is possible to maintain verbal contact with the medical staff or simply sleep through the entire procedure.

Throughout the procedure, the patient is under the constant care of the medical team. Vital signs, such as blood pressure, are continuously monitored.

What happens after the procedure? Full awareness typically returns within several dozen minutes. Drowsiness or slight disorientation may occur, which is why rest in the presence of a companion is recommended after the procedure. Usually, after about 1–2 hours, the patient can leave the facility, but should not drive or make important decisions during this time.

How to prepare for analgosedation? To ensure the procedure is safe, it's important to follow a few basic rules:

Consult your medications: Some medications may need to be discontinued—follow your doctor’s instructions. Bring a companion: You are not allowed to drive after the procedure, and the presence of a loved one ensures your safety. Prepare documentation: Bring any test results and recommendations from specialists. Analgosedation vs. general anesthesia – key differences Unlike general anesthesia, during analgosedation the patient breathes independently and does not require intubation. The sleep is lighter and shorter, and recovery is faster. This allows the procedure to be performed in outpatient settings. In some cases, if necessary, the doctor may decide to switch from analgosedation to general anesthesia—this is always done under the careful supervision of an anesthesiologist.
